You’re Not Good at It… Yet

This microscope reminded me of the most powerful 3-letter word I know.
A few weeks ago, I unboxed this new microscope. It’s very different from the one I was used to, and I caught myself telling my son Leo:
“I’m just not very good at using it.”
Leo paused, thought for a second, and then gave me a tiny but life-changing edit:
“You’re not good at using your microscope… yet.”
That one word completely reframed things for me.
Since then, “yet” has been showing up everywhere:
🧫 Microscope
I’m not proficient with it… yet. But I will be, as long as I keep practicing and keep making (and learning from) mistakes.
🧠 My routine
I haven’t found the right rhythm for myself… yet.
📖 Leo’s reading
He isn’t as fast a reader as he’d like to be… yet.
🌱 The worm farm
Iowa Worm Farm hasn’t fully discovered its path and purpose… yet.
“Yet” turns a limitation into a work in progress.
It keeps the door open. It assumes growth.
I’ve appreciated Leo’s reminder so much that I’ve been using that word daily and telling almost everyone I know about it.
Where could adding “yet” change the story for you this week?
